If you want the best 8″ Windows Tablet, I like the Acer Iconia W4 Buy Now from Amazon and the Asus VivoTab Note 8 Buy Now from Amazon.  The Acer has a nice screen, physical start button, and micro-HDMI.  The Asus features a pretty good stylus pen.

HP Stream 8 (Amazon $184.82 | Microsoft Store $149 | User Reviews)
Best Windows Tablets with a Stylus (Digitizer Pen)
As of this writing, I strongly urge Win8 tablet shoppers to by a Windows tablet with a stylus or digitizer pen. The stylus will make it easier to interact with Windows 8 while in desktop mode. This is especially true for 8 inch Windows Tablets because the operating system doesn’t scale well on the smaller screens. As a result, some of the buttons are easier to use with a stylus versus a finger.

The stylus will also provide additional functionality for apps that are optimized for its use, such as One Note, Fresh Paint, and Adobe Photoshop.

My top picks for Windows Tablets with a stylus include the Microsoft Surface Pro 3, Microsoft Surface 3 and the 8-inch Asus VivoTab Note 8. The Dell Venue 8 Pro also offers active stylus support. However, even with corrective firmware updates, some users complain that the Dell Venue Pro stylus doesn’t work well.  Perhaps this issue has been fixed? (Let me know in the comments section below)

Microsoft Surface Pro 3 (Amazon $694.94 | Microsoft Store $799 | User Reviews)
Microsoft Surface 3 (Amazon $499 | Microsoft Store $499 | User Reviews)
Asus VivoTab Note 8 (Amazon $254.75 | User Reviews)
Dell Venue 8 Pro (Amazon $204 | User Reviews)

Best Windows Tablets with a Keyboard
To get the most out of your Windows Tablet, I suggest you consider devices that include, or offer optional keyboards. Keyboards are a must for interacting with legacy Windows applications. Keyboards also give Windows Tablets an edge versus Android tablets and the iPad in terms of productivity.

My top pick for Windows tablets that offer a keyboard accessory is the Microsoft Surface Pro 3. The type cover keyboard accessory  doesn’t replace a good quality conventional keyboard but the portability it offers will be well worth the compromise for some people.

If you need a cheaper Windows Tablet with a keyboard, consider the 12-Inch ASUS Transformer Book T200TA, or the smaller 10-Inch Asus Transformer Book T100TA . The T200 offers a quality build and a nice keyboard.  The T100 offers a pretty good value for a 2-in-1 device.

Microsoft Surface Pro 3 (Amazon $694.94 | Microsoft Store $799 | User Reviews)
Microsoft Surface 3 (Amazon $499 | Microsoft Store $499 | User Reviews)
Asus Transformer Book T200TA (Amazon $339 | Microsoft Store $369 | User Reviews)
Asus Transformer Book 10-inch T100TA (Amazon $244.90 | Microsoft Store $309 | User Reviews)
Best Windows Tablets with a Dock/Docking Station
If you plan to use your Windows based tablet as a desktop computer as well, you should consider tablets that come with a dock or docking station. The Microsoft Surface Pro 3  is my number one choice, as its Intel Core processor will provide performance comparable to a conventional desktop.

If you want a cheaper option with an Intel Core processor, consider the old Acer Iconia W700. The W700 is the first Windows based tablet I ever purchased and it’s still my favorite. Since it’s a couple years old, you should be able to find one pretty cheap.

Microsoft Surface Pro 3 (Amazon $694.94 | Microsoft Store $799 | User Reviews)
Acer Iconia W700 (Amazon $520 | User Reviews)
Microsoft Surface 3 (Amazon $499 | Microsoft Store $499 | User Reviews)
Best Windows Tablets with 3G/4G Sim Slot
Current generation Windows Tablets equipped with a 3G/4G Sim slot are mostly non-existent.  The Surface Pro 2 featured broadband compatibility but this device is no longer available.  The only option I’ve seen currently available is the HP Stream 8 Buy Now from Amazon.  If you aren’t interested in the HP, the best option is to chose the Windows Tablet you like the most and make use of an external 3G/4G device.

HP Stream 8 (Amazon $184.82 | Microsoft Store $149 | User Reviews)
Your cell phone’s mobile hotspot feature
A Mi-Fi device purchased from your wireless carrier
Microsoft Surface Pro 2 via eBay
Best Windows Tablets with GPS
To take advantage of applications and websites that can make use of your current location, consider a Windows Tablet that comes with GPS support. My favorite Microsoft tablet for GPS support is the Asus VivoTab Note 8 Buy Now from Amazon.

Best Windows Tablets for Business Users
For most business users, I do not recommend a Windows Tablet per se.  There aren’t any great options that combine a quality keyboard accessory, good performance, and good battery life.  For this reason, I suggest conventional laptops for business use.

If you are a business user that has an actual use case for a tablet, my top picks are the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 and the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro.

Microsoft Surface Pro 3 (Amazon $694.94 | Microsoft Store $799 | User Reviews)
Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro (Amazon $1117 | Microsoft Store $999.99 | User Reviews)
Best Windows 10 Tablets?
We expect that most of the recently released Windows 8 Tablets will be compatible with Windows 10. We will add any new Windows 10 Tablets to the list as soon as they are released.

We will also put together a detailed tutorial on upgrading the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 to Windows 10. Please stay tuned for that.

What are the Best Windows RT Tablets?
Do not buy a Windows RT tablet! This line of devices is dead.  Microsoft has stopped manufacturing them.  Windows 8 Tablets perform better, have comparable prices and battery life, and have greater compatibility.  Plus you can find many cheap Windows Tablets running Windows 8 these days. This makes the Windows RT tablet an unnecessary product, which is why Microsoft killed it.

For you unlucky soles that purchased a Windows RT Tablet like I did, I didn’t forget about you! Check out my Best Windows RT Apps for Microsoft Surface! 😉
